Houston Highway Credit Union
The Story of our Houston credit union
Houston Highway Credit Union was chartered by the state of Texas in December 1952 to serve the employees that worked in district 12 of the Texas Highway Department. At the time, this included about 2,000 employees in Houston and the seven surrounding counties.
Since that time, the number of employees and counties has decreased, and they presently have less than 1,400 employees.
The Houston credit union expands...
In 1991, when all the state-chartered credit unions were required to qualify for the federal insurance, there were two small Houston credit unions in our area who could not qualify. Our board voted to offer membership to those members - Wilson Business Supply and Mosher Credit Unions - to expand our field of membership to more of the local community.
Who does Houston Highway Credit Union serve today?
Recently the field of membership was expanded to also include all persons within ten miles of the credit union office.
